Don’t stop praying for Nigeria, Gowon urges Christians

ABUJA — Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has urged Nigerian Christians not to relent in praying for the peace, unity and progress of the country.

Gowon made the appeal on Sunday during the ongoing Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) in Abuja.

The elder statesman, who has devoted much of his post-retirement life to peacebuilding and intercessory prayer for the nation, encouraged believers to remain steadfast in seeking God’s intervention for Nigeria.

“Don’t stop praying for the country,” he said.

Gowon, who led Nigeria during the Civil War, noted that God has richly blessed the country with abundant human and natural resources. He, however, called on patriotic Nigerians to unite against forces working to undermine the nation’s peace and development.

According to him, people of goodwill must stand together to resist those bent on destabilising the country.

Also speaking, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry (DLCM), Pastor William Kumuyi, assured Christians that they have no reason to fear because Jesus Christ remains faithful to care for His people.

Delivering a sermon during the Global Sunday Worship Service, Kumuyi urged believers to trust God regardless of prevailing challenges, expressing confidence that God would bring stability to every difficult situation.

“Those who know their God shall do exploits,” he said, adding, “Even in the worst of times, you will be at your best by the power of Christ.”

The Global Crusade with Kumuyi, which began in Abuja on June 24, 2026, is scheduled to conclude on Sunday evening.
