The wager, estimated at over N1 billion, has stirred reactions online after the Grammy-winning artiste shared details of the bet on social media.
Drake said he decided to raise the stakes after a private exchange with popular South African DJ, Black Coffee.
“Black Coffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise my stakes,” the rapper wrote.
The bet slip showed a total stake of $770,000, with a potential payout of $1,001,000 if Canada defeat South Africa in the knockout fixture.
Canada and South Africa are meeting in one of the Round of 32 matches at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Drake, who is known for placing high-profile sports bets, has often attracted attention for his wagers on major football, basketball and combat sports events.
The latest bet has added extra buzz to the Canada-South Africa clash, with fans joking online about the famous “Drake curse” and whether Canada can survive the pressure.
