Kaduna Gov Vows Justice, Adopts Children Of Slain Woman

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has assured the family of the late Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu that all those responsible for her death will be brought to justice, while pledging that the state government will assume responsibility for the education and welfare of the children she left behind.

The governor gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the bereaved family in Maraban Jos, Kaduna, where he met with the deceased’s husband, Aliyu Mohammed, and other family members to sympathise with them over their loss.

The killing of Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, over allegations of stealing children, which occurred in Maraban Jos, had sparked widespread condemnation from security agencies, civil society organisations, and community leaders, who described it as a disturbing case of mob justice.

Speaking during the visit, Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice, stating that security agencies were working diligently to apprehend everyone connected to the incident.

“Before coming here, I have already sent a team that visited the family three days ago. And not only that, I have also been talking with the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the DSS, as well as all the relevant security agencies in Kaduna State. And I am happy that they have done extremely well in the investigation into the incident. And as we are speaking, about 41 persons have been charged for culpable homicide, and about 41 others are undergoing investigation also. Till date, 30 suspects have been charged for unlawful assembly. As you are aware, we don’t take this kind of thing for granted. And I made it clear to everyone, all the people involved, no matter the number, we will ensure that justice is done.”

Beyond the pursuit of justice, Sani announced that the Kaduna State Government would take full responsibility for the education and welfare of the deceased’s children to ease the burden on the family.
