The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has secured the conviction of Jonathan Marcus for the murder of an 80-year-old man, Mr. Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The command disclosed that the couple was murdered on April 1, 2024, at their home in Zone D, Apo Legislative Quarters, prompting an extensive police investigation.

According to the police, investigations led to the arrest of Marcus, a former driver to the deceased, who fled to Obajana, Kogi State, after the incident.

He was tracked down, arrested and brought back to Abuja for further investigation.

Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation to gaining access to the couple’s residence at about 11 p.m. on the day of the incident, where he killed them.

Further investigations revealed that Marcus had previously worked as the couple’s driver but was dismissed following repeated disagreements with his employers.

The suspect was subsequently arraigned before the FCT High Court, where the police prosecuted the case.

After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution and hearing submissions from counsel, Justice M. S. Idris of the FCT High Court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court consequently convicted Marcus and sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel.

The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that perpetrators of crime would continue to be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
